Cathedral War Memorial photographs

The photographs show the war memorial plaque inside the Cathedral door commemorating the Great War 1914-1918. Wording for the plaque is as follows: Their Name Liveth for Evermore. To the Glory of God and in Pious Memory of those who Laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1918 especially John Francklyn Peters ( Pte. 7th Batt. C.E.F, April 24th 1916 aged 22 years), Gerald Hamilton Peters ( Lieut. 7th Batt. C.E.F, June 3rd 1917 aged 22 years), Harry Cuthbert Stuart D.C.M. (Lieut. 2nd Batt. Church of England's "Firsts" in Canada framed images

This framed presentation of four images appears to have been put together by St. Peter's Cathedral Church volunteers for display purposes: the images appear to have come from published sources and include both photographic images and drawings.

Image A is a photograph of Reverend Randall Thomas Davidson, D.D., LL.D., D.C.L. Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, the first archbishop of Canterbury to visit Canada in 1904. Image B is a sketch of Reverend Charles Inglis D.D. the Lord Bishop of Nova Scotia (1787-1815), who was the first colonial bishop of the Church of England. Image C shows Reverend Charles Hamilton, M.A. OXON., D.D., D.C.L., who was the Lord Bishop of Ottawa and who reached in St. Peter's Cathedral Church at the centennial of the diocese of Nova Scotia in August [188?]. Image D is a photograph of Reverend Arthur Foley WInnington-Ingram, D.D., Lord Bishop of London, who was the first bishop of London to visit Canada in 1907.

Demolition of the Church Hall

The photographs show the demolition of the old Church Hall. The event was described by Father Peter Harris as follows: "watched by a group of parishioners, the machine with the wrecking ball and mechanical jaws performed the actual taking down of the old building. By 4 pm, the old Hall had been reduced to a pile of rubble. By October, the Hall was almost complete and usable." Only photos A B C have been scanned.

The organizers were Annie Carter, Catherine Edward, Ann Francis, Lynn MacDonald and Rosemary Mathis and it was held in the old Hall. Norma Simpson was the MC.

Jubilee Service - St. Peter's Cathedral interior photographs

The photographs show the interior of the Cathedral facing the old pulpit. Note that chairs are being used instead of pews, these were used until 1926. On the back of photograph [a] in pencil is written St. Peter's Cathedral Charlottetown Prince Edward Island photo by Cloud Hill, Charlottetown". Photo B is identified as the Jubilee Service.

The photographs numbered PHOTO 0422 were removed from Fonds 013: Mothers' Union Archives, Box 78, where they originally accompanied related programmes and a leaflet.
