Sandford and Merton in Words of One Syllable
This children's book includes a bookplate that reads "St. Peter's Boys' School -- Presented to R. Clare Harris".
The book is a distillation of the best-selling children's book The History of Sandford and Merton (1783–89), written by Thomas Day, which was notable for its portrayal of "good morals" in children.
The publication presented bible symbols, "designed and arranged to stimulate a greater interest in the study of the Bible by both young and old."
The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments
This bible was used by the congregation at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Rustico, Prince Edward Island.
This publication is inscribed "to Margaret Killen [?]".
The book includes a bookplate for E. J. Hodgson with the inscription "E. J. Hodgson from his brother George." The date of 1848 seems to correlate to the inscription, not the publication date.
The Book of Common Prayer of Canada
The publication is inscribed with "Michael R. Ness, 1964."
Self-Interpreting Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments
The "self-interpreting" bible, with notes by Rev. John Brown, D.D., is also referred to as "the Wadman Bible" and includes an envelope and letter addressed to Edgar McNutt and a note re: the Wadman genealogy. The geneology itself is listed on the pages between the Old and New Testaments.
St. Peter's Cathedral Church Altar Service Book
The Altar Service Book, published in 1867, is a 38 x 26 x 3.5 bound book, edited by the Reverend Frederick George Lee, DCL, FSA (1832–1902), a theological writer born at Thame, Oxfordshire, who was ordained deacon by the bishop of Oxford in 1854 and priest in 1856.
The full title of the publication is: Altar Service Book, According to the Use of the United Church of England and Ireland/ The Order for the Administration of the Holy Communion, to which are Prefixed the Tables of Feasts and Fasts, and Kalendar, with the Collects, Epistles and Gospels, to be used throughout the year; Also the order for Confirmation of Children, and the Form for the Solemnization of Holy Matrimony; Together with the Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining, and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests and Deacons, According to the Use of the United Church of England and Ireland. With the Ancient Plain Song for the Holy Communion. The publication is apparently three volumes but there is only one volume in this accession.
Included with the book is a note, by James Simpson, from sometime after September 1918, reading "This book was used in the Altar of St. Peter's Cathedral from the early days of the church until September 1918." As well, a piece of string has been retained: it is presumably the string used to tie the book during its use.
Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments
The bible was presented to Camp Kingston in June 1988. Two embroidered bookmarks were included with the bible, which was a gift of Lois MacLaren via Gloria Jay.
