The photograph shows Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, New Brunswick. A note on the back says the photograph was taken before the fire of 1911.
The photograph is a portrait of John Ellis. The inscription on the back reads "John Ellis Assistant Priest 1871-1877." Above that inscription, written in pencil, is "Mrs. E. J. Hodgson." It is unclear why there are two inscriptions. The photographer is identified as based in Calcutta.

Six youths stand around him, holding sheets of paper and apparently singing along. Two of the youths are identified as Catherine and Alan Tuck, while the other four youths remain unnamed. The photograph is taken indoors but the precise location is not known.
