Institutionele geschiedenis
The St. Peter's Cathedral Binney Group was originally the evening branch of St. Peter's Anglican Church Women but was renamed by Archdeacon G.S. Tanton in 1968, in honour of the fourth bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Hibbert Binney, who served as bishop from 1851 to 1887 and who was instrumental in the establishing of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish. The Binney Group of women meet once a month for a business meeting and undertake numerous fund-raising events for the parish. Together with the St. Peter's Cathedral Inglis Group, the Binney Group provides "refreshments" at numerous parish events, meetings, etc.
Geschiedenis beheer
The Binney Group archives form part of the St. Peter's Cathedral Church archives, which were relocated from the church bell tower to the church basement and then into a purpose-built archival room. The records had been stored in boxes and bags at one point and original order was lost. Additional materials related to the Binney Group, particularly photograph albums, were added to the archives as work on the backlog was carried out and volunteers donated related materials.
A second accession of Binney Group archives was received on 9 March 2020, retrieved from a storage cupboard in the Church basement as advised by Ann Francis. The approximately 20 cm of archives were arranged and described and added to Box 91. They consist of minutes, notes, correspondence, and newsletters from 1995 to 2007.
Bereik en inhoud
The Binney Group archives consist of official records of the activities of the Binney Group, including bylaws, meeting minutes and agendas, financial reports, notebooks and planning records, service leaflets and programmes, correspondence, and photographs. The archives also depict Christmas and Easter parties and other social events organized by or involving members of the Binney Group. Key members of the Binney Group whose names appear throughout the archives include Peggy Holland, Marjorie Vessey, Betty Acorn, Ann Francis, and Norma Simpson.
